Okay, this is interesting…and I’m not sure how I feel about it.
Apparently, some offices are going footwear-free (you know, like socks or slippers only) as a way to reduce stress and make the workplace more comfortable.
Companies... especially startups, are experimenting with rules like: no bare feet, clean socks only, and you still wear shoes…but only in bathrooms or outdoors.
The idea is that letting people kick off their shoes can make things feel more relaxed, boost morale, and even help with creativity and focus.
That said, it’s not all sunshine and daisies. Some folks worry that it could introduce bias! For example, dress expectations are often judged differently for women vs men and older workers might view shoeless offices as too informal.
There’s also the question of whether everyone even wants to do this.
Ummm how about the smell?
Could you imagine this rule here?
