(Polk County, NC) -- The search for a missing child from Polk County is over. The sheriff's office says eleven-year-old Allison Paige Henderson was found safe last night. Investigators originally said they believed she was abducted by her uncle, but it's still unclear if he faces charges. An Amber Alert was issued when Allison was first reported missing from Green Creek on Saturday.
Animal Sanctuary Denied Federal Funding For Flood
(Black Mountain, NC) -- A western North Carolina animal rescue group is being denied federal funding. WLOS-TV reports Full Moon Farm Wolfdog Animal Sanctuary was not approved for financial assistance after Tropical Storm Fred caused damage in August. COVID-19 has also prevented the organization from completing its usual fundraising efforts. A FEMA officer says the Black Mountain sanctuary can apply for a Small Business Administration Loan.
Congressional Candidate Suspends Campaign
(Haywood County, NC) -- A Republican plans to step aside in western North Carolina's congressional race. Eric Batchelor announced on social media yesterday that he was suspending his campaign so the party could unite behind one candidate to defeat incumbent and fellow Republican Madison Cawthorn. The race is crowded with both Democrats and Republicans. Batchelor serves as a deputy for the Haywood County Sheriff's Office.
Another Suspect Arrested In Buncombe Theft Ring
(Buncombe County, NC) -- A fourth suspect is now facing charges in a large Buncombe County theft investigation. It started to unfold in late September when investigators found stolen items and an explosive device inside a storage unit on Smoky Park Highway. An arrest over the weekend led to nearly 12 felony charges in connection to the case. Three others were already taken to jail after hundreds of stolen goods were seized.
Food Assistance Applications In Three Mountain Counties
(Haywood County, NC) -- The state is providing flood-affected residents with financial help to buy food. Applications from people in Buncombe, Haywood and Transylvania counties are being taken through Thursday. Those who currently receive Food and Nutrition Services benefits are not eligible for extra food funding assistance. A family of four would be given just over 780-dollars.

House Speaker Tim Moore said Bumgardner was never afraid of a tough legislative battle, but he was friendly with colleagues on both sides of the aisle. Bumgardner was serving his fifth term as state Representative.

(Newton, NC) -- Newton Police are investigating the death of a couple. Officers found a man and a woman shot to death inside the newspaper offices for the Observer News Enterprise on Friday night. The cars of two missing people were found outside the building, but investigators did not confirm if they belonged to the man and woman. There's no search for suspects.
NC Distilleries Now Selling Bottled Spirits On Sunday
(Raleigh, NC) -- North Carolina distilleries can now sell bottled spirits on Sundays. Yesterday marked the first time the state's new law allowed Sunday sales for distilleries in nearly 90-years. NBC Charlotte says state lawmaker Timothy Moffitt was the first customer for South Distilling Company in Statesville yesterday. The Henderson County Republican sponsored the legislation.

Five Wounded By Gunfire In Durham Over The Weekend; One Fatal
(Durham, NC) -- Durham Police are investigating a total of five shootings over the weekend, one of them fatal. The latest incident occurred Sunday night around 9:15 at McDougald Terrace apartments. The adult male victim was rushed to a nearby hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. On Saturday night, authorities say a man in his 30's was shot and killed at an apartment complex on Hardee Street. On Friday night, a woman was injured in an apparent drive-by shooting on Liberty Street. And, a teenager was injured by gunfire outside Durham County Memorial Stadium following a football game. So far, there've been no arrests in any of these cases.
Police Looking For Driver Of Red Pickup Truck In Fatal Hit And Run In Clayton
(Clayton, NC) -- Authorities in Clayton are investigating a fatal hit-and-run as a possible homicide. It happened early Sunday morning around 6:30 near Medical Park Drive and Highway 70. Officers responded to a call of a person down and found an adult male lying on the side of the road in the westbound lanes. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators say they are looking for a red-colored 1999-to-2007 Chevy Silverado or GMC Sierra pickup truck. The vehicle could have damage to the front end or side. Anyone with information is asked to contact Clayton police.
Clayton Woman Wanted For Murder Captured Near Atlanta
(Clayton, NC) -- A woman wanted in connection with the shooting death of her grandmother last week in Clayton has been arrested. Authorities say 31-year-old Camille Singleton was taken into custody Sunday by officers with the South Fulton Georgia Police Department after she was identified by a concerned citizen at a Walmart store near Atlanta. A murder warrant was issued for Singleton after her grandmother, identified as 68-year-old Inita Gaither, was found inside her home with a fatal gunshot wound to the head. Also, an amber alert that had been issued for Singleton's two-year-old son, Dior, was canceled.
Beefed Up Security Ordered Around Seventy-First High School Following Double Shooting
(Cumberland County, NC) -- Extra security has been assigned to areas around the Seventy-First High School today. This comes after two people were shot and wounded following a football game Friday night. The victims, described as 18-and-19-year-old males, were taken to a nearby hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Sheriff's investigators say shortly after the shooting, a message was posted on Instagram threatening violence at the school.
Duke, UNC Researchers Working On MERCK COVID-19 Treatment Pill
(Raleigh, NC) -- Part of the data on a new COVID-19 pill being developed by Merck was gathered by researchers in the Triangle. Clinical trials are being held at both Duke and UNC Health. Merck announced on Friday that it plans to submit an application to the FDA for Emergency Use Authorization soon. Researchers say the treatment pill has shown promising results in preventing serious illness and hospitalizations of those already infected with COVID-19. Scientists are hoping the oral medication taken twice daily could be an alternative to monoclonal antibody treatment through infusion therapy.
AMBER Alert For Polk Co. Girl Canceled
(Polk Co., NC) -- An AMBER alert is no longer in effect for an eleven-year-old girl from Polk County. Allison Henderson was last seen early Saturday morning, but she was found safe the next day. She was originally believed to be a runaway, but a ping on her cell-phone tracked her to her uncle's home. Deputies aren't saying how or where she was found.
Body Of Missing Woman Found In Woods
(Winston-Salem, NC) -- Winston-Salem Police are investigating the death of a missing woman whose body was found in the woods. Forty-eight-year-old Paula Kindley was reported missing on Thursday, September 29th. Her body was found the following evening near Chevy Chase Street and Jones Meadow Drive. Police say the investigation is still ongoing.

(Gastonia, NC) -- A North Carolina state Representative has died following a battle with cancer. House Speaker Tim Moore confirmed the death of Representative Dana Bumgardner on Saturday. He died at his home in Gastonia. He was in his fifth, two-year term.
Three Men Arrested In Winston-Salem Armed Robbery
(Winston-Salem, NC) -- Three men are under arrest in connection to an armed robbery in Winston Salem. Antonio Stroud, Isaiah Hawkins and Torey Kellum are charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon. They're accused of robbing a man of his wallet, keys, cell-phone and cash near Klooster Drive and Edgewood View Lane on Saturday night. All three suspects were arrested shortly afterward. They're currently waiting on their bond hearings.

(High Point, NC) -- Some Triad families will be able to start applying for the Salvation Army's Angel Tree program today. Eligible ZIP Codes are 27-260, 262, 263, 265, 282, 350 and 370. The program is for parents or legal guardians of children 12-years old and younger. Residents can apply at the Salvation Army of High Point on West Green Drive. Applications will be accepted through October 8th.
