(Brevard, NC) -- Federal agents are helping Brevard police investigate the discovery of suspected explosive devices in downtown. Officers found several small undetonated devices near the First Baptist Church and the Transylvania County Community Services building on Sunday morning. Area businesses were evacuated as field agents investigated the scene. No one was hurt, and the search for those responsible continues.

Vaccine Eligibility Expands Again This Week

(Raleigh, NC) -- COVID vaccine eligibility is expanding statewide in two days. Anyone at least 16-years-of-age with certain medical conditions will be added to the list on Wednesday. Those conditions include anyone who is overweight or obese, has asthma or has high blood pressure. Over two-million North Carolinians have received at least one dose of a vaccine.

Support Grows For Asheville Primary School

(Asheville, NC) -- There's growing support to save Asheville Primary School. The building houses both the city preschool and Montessori program, but the school board is considering relocating the students elsewhere. More than 26-hundred people have signed a petition on Change-dot-org to help save the school. A public hearing on the matter comes up tomorrow afternoon at five.

App State Playing In NCAA's First Four Round

(Boone, NC) -- Appalachian State finds itself in the First Four round of the NCAA tournament. The Mountaineers landed in the big dance with a surprise win in the Sun Belt Conference Championship. The tournament committee selected App State to play Norfolk State in a game between 16-seeds Thursday. The winner plays number-one Gonzaga on Saturday.

Gas Prices Still Climbing

(Asheville, NC) -- Gasoline prices are continuing to climb upward in the state. Triple-A reports the average price-per-gallon for regular unleaded is around two-66, which is eight-cents more than a week ago and a-nearly-30-cent jump from this time last month. The prices are even more pronounced in western North Carolina, which averages higher than any other region in the state. Asheville's average price of two-72 is 35-cents more than a month ago.

Theater Group Offering Virtual Classes

(Henderson County, NC) -- A Henderson County theater group is offering virtual classes soon. Registration is now open for anyone five-and-older for a four-week Spring Mini-Mester hosted by Flat Rock Playhouse's Studio 52. Classes beginning April 13th include acting, theater design and more. The studio's director of education told WLOS-TV it's a great option for students who don't know where to begin, and for the experienced student as well.

Salisbury Officer Arrested For Assault

(Salisbury, NC) -- A Salisbury police officer is being accused of an off-duty assault. A woman told Rowan County deputies that Malik Byrd forced his way inside her home to confront a man Saturday night. Byrd allegedly pushed the woman and repeatedly punched the man in the home. He turned himself in yesterday for simple assault and breaking-and-entering.

Suspect Accused Of Setting Home On Fire

(Gaston County, NC) -- A Bessemer City man is facing charges for allegedly setting his ex-girlfriend's home on fire. Gastonia police say the woman was still inside when the fire was set at the South Calvary Street house on Saturday night. She escaped without injury, but the flames caused around ten-thousand-dollars in damage. The suspect was arrested later Saturday night on arson and attempted murder charges.

Charlotte Man Sues Company Over Noose

(Mecklenburg County, NC) -- A Charlotte man is suing a North Carolina company over a noose found at a work site. Stevie Stuckes told NBC Charlotte that he's never gotten an apology and was ultimately fired half-a-year after someone allegedly left a noose for him to see while he worked for Pike Enterprises. An administrator for the company says the allegations have been distorted. The lawsuit filed last week claims he was discriminated against and wrongfully discharged.

COVID Metrics Improving Heading Into Spring Break

(Charlotte, NC) -- COVID-19 metrics in Mecklenburg County are continuing to improve as spring break draws near. Public health officials report the county has averaged roughly 170 new cases per day over the past two weeks, which is hundreds less than the average during the January peak. Mecklenburg's health director Gibbie Harris told the Charlotte Observer that people need to be smart and use good common sense when it comes to deciding what to do about spring break.

One Dead In East Charlotte Homicide

(Charlotte, NC) -- A homicide is being investigated in east Charlotte. The CMPD was called to a shooting on Delta Lake Drive late Sunday afternoon. One man died at the scene. No arrests have been announced, but officers say they aren't looking for any suspects.

Charlotte Church Helps Drivers Pay For Gas

(Charlotte, NC) -- A Charlotte church is helping drivers hit the road as gas prices rise. Kingdom City Church organized a free-gas-giveaway event on Saturday at a Mobil gas station on Brookshire Boulevard. The church shelled out ten-thousand-dollars to fill up the tanks of around 500 cars in just over two hours. Triple-A says the current average price for regular unleaded in the Charlotte area is two-66-per-gallon, or 33-cents more than one month ago.

Duke Undergrads Ordered To 'Stay In Place' Following COVID Student Outbreak

(Durham, NC) -- Duke University students will begin this week under a 'Stay In Place Order' after a new outbreak of COVID-19 cases was detected. Within the past two weeks, more than 180 students have tested positive and 200 students have been placed under quarantine. Off campus frat parties are being blamed for the recent surge. For the next week, all classes will be virtual and all undergrad students who live on campus must remain in their rooms, except for essential purposes like going for food, health care or emergencies. Students who live off campus will not be allowed on the premises for one week.

Bar Room Fight Sends Injures One, Two Businesses Ordered To Shutdown

(Raleigh, NC) -- Two bars in the popular Glenwood South district were ordered to shut down Sunday night after drunk patrons got into a brawl. The fight was first reported around 8:35 p.m. at the Dogwood Bar and Eatery and the Cornerstone Tavern on Glenwood Avenue. The road was also briefly closed off to traffic while police brought the situation under control. The two people involved in the disturbance were treated for minor injuries while one was taken to the hospital. One of the patrons is also facing charges.

Fatal Shooting Suspect Arrested And Charged With Murder

(Wake County, NC) -- Authorities in Wake County are holding one suspect in custody in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred late Saturday night just south of Raleigh. Sheriff's deputies responded to a call of shots fired around 11:30 p.m. near a home on the 96-hundred-block of U.S. 401 and Fayetteville Road. When they arrived, they found a man lying in a front yard suffering from a gunshot wound. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was later pronounced dead. Twenty-five-year-old Andre Joseph Cleveland has been charged with murder.

The announcement, which was made Sunday, has the Tar Heels matched up against Wisconsin in the first round that begins on Friday. Hit-And-Run Suspect Arrested

(Thomasville, NC) -- A Thomasville man is facing hit-and-run charges. Investigators say the 62-year-old man allegedly struck an 18-year-old on a bike in Trinity the night of March 4th. The driver fled the scene in his truck without stopping. Troopers arrested the driver on Saturday, while the victim is still being treated for injuries at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.

Two Dead In Three Greensboro Shootings

(Greensboro, NC) -- Greensboro police are still putting pieces together from a violent Friday night. Officers responded to three shootings within a couple of hours. Two people died, while two others were treated for injuries. The police department told FOX8 that a staffing study will be provided to the city council next month in hopes of addressing crime prevention and hiring new officers in Greensboro.

Man Found Dead In High Point

(High Point, NC) -- High Point police are investigating a homicide. A man was reportedly found dead in front of a vacant building on South Main Street near I-85 Business Saturday. A suspect was arrested for first-degree murder. Officers are still investigating the motive and haven't released a suspected cause of death.

SpaceX Rocket Visit In Sky Above Triad

(Winston-Salem, NC) -- Rocket launches may happen hundreds of miles away, but that doesn't mean the Triad totally misses out. A number of witnesses in the region reported seeing a light shoot across the sky around six Sunday morning. It's been confirmed that it was the SpaceX Falcon Nine rocket, which launched from Kennedy Space Center in Florida. It was the eighth SpaceX launch of the year.
