NC Senators Help Confirm New Justice

(Washington, DC) -- A new justice is coming on board the United States Supreme Court with the help of North Carolina's two Senators. Republicans Thom Tillis and Richard Burr joined 50 other Senators to confirm Judge Amy Coney Barrett yesterday. Tillis said prior to the confirmation he thinks Barrett is going to go down as one of the greatest justices on the U.S. Supreme Court. His Democratic challenger, Cal Cunningham, said Tillis is trying to take healthcare away from North Carolinians by voting for a judge who has expressed open hostility to the Affordable Care Act.

Six Suspects Cited For Removing Campaign Signs

(Hendersonville, NC) -- Six suspects are accused of stealing Democratic political signs in Hendersonville. Investigators say ten signs placed near the Stein Mart on Greenville Highway were discovered missing on Sunday. The suspects were issued misdemeanor citations for stealing, defacing, vandalizing or unlawfully removing a political sign. Several Trump signs were vandalized in Brevard earlier this month.

Today Marks Deadline For Absentee Ballot Requests

(Raleigh, NC) -- North Carolinians are running out of time to request an absentee ballot for the general election. Requests must be made today by 5 p.m. Voting totals through mail-in and early in-person ballots have officially passed all of 2016 in the state. Elections officials said yesterday nearly three-point-two million votes have been cast.

Private School Coronavirus Clusters Outnumber Public Schools

(Raleigh, NC) -- COVID-19 is popping up in more North Carolina private schools than public. Health officials said as of last Friday, there were 14 active clusters at K-through-12 private schools, while eleven were reported at public schools. One private school in Goldsboro has reported 35 coronavirus cases.

Jury Trials Resume In WNC District

(Haywood County, NC) -- Jury trials are starting back up in a western North Carolina district this week. They've been shut down in the seven-county 43rd district since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic. Now, jurors, court staff and witnesses will be following health protocols. That includes wearing face masks and spacing appropriately. Haywood County began jury trials yesterday, while Jackson and Clay start next week.

Mountains Could Feel Impacts Of Hurricane

(Asheville, NC) -- Western North Carolina could still be impacted by heavy rain and winds this week. Hurricane Zeta is tracking towards the Gulf Coast before an expected turn inland to the northeast. The National Weather Service is calling for a possibility of two to four inches of rain in the mountains on the storm's current path.

Early Voting In Meck Passes 2016 Totals

(Mecklenburg County, NC) -- Early voting totals in both Mecklenburg County and North Carolina are breaking records from four years ago. WSOC-TV reports over 330-thousand people in Charlotte have cast ballots so far, which already outpaces all of 2016 by more than 20-thousand. Nearly three-point-two million North Carolinians have voted early, which also surpasses early totals from the last presidential election.

More Deaths Reported In Church Outbreak

(Charlotte, NC) -- The COVID-19 outbreak linked to a Charlotte church is worsening. Mecklenburg County health officials said yesterday more than 140 people have now tested positive since attending a convocation event at the United House of Prayer for All People earlier this month. Five people have died, while seven are currently hospitalized. The church has already been ordered to halt all in-person events.

(Charlotte, NC) -- President Trump's daughters are campaigning for their father in the Queen City this week. Tiffany Trump is scheduled to hold a breakfast and a Make America Great Again Meet-Up this morning. Ivanka will make her way to talk with Charlotte supporters tomorrow. Missing Chester County Inmate Captured

(Chester County, SC) -- The search for a missing Chester County inmate is over. Bradley Bianco spent the weekend on the run after breaking free from the Chester County Detention Center last Friday. His luck ran out when deputies caught him running from an abandoned home in York County yesterday.

Panthers' Coach Hopeful McCaffrey Can Return Thursday

(Charlotte, NC) -- Panthers' running back Christian McCaffrey appears to be nearing a return. He hasn't been cleared to play yet, but he showed up at the practice field yesterday wearing a red, non-contact jersey. Head coach Matt Rhule said it's a possibility the Pro Bowler could play Thursday against the Falcons. McCaffrey has been out for five games after suffering an ankle sprain.

Over Three Million Rapid COVID-19 Tests Coming To North Carolina

(Raleigh, NC) -- The federal government has announced that it's sending about over three-million COVID-19 rapid tests to North Carolina. According to Abbot Laboratories, the BinaxNow tests have the capability of producing results in as little as 15-minutes. In a statement released Monday, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services said the tests are part of the Trump Administration's comprehensive plan to assist governors in fighting the pandemic. The tests will first go to Governor Roy Cooper, who will then distribute them to first responders, school districts, long term care facilities and others.

Positive Coronavirus Cases Appear To Be Going Down In North Carolina

(Raleigh, NC) -- State health officials reported a slight decrease in the number of new coronavirus cases in North Carolina on Monday. The 16-hundred-43 infections was 164-fewer than the day before. It also brought the total to nearly 262-thousand since the pandemic first began. The report said there were one-thousand-193 people in the hospital, marking the 15-day in a row that hospitalizations have remained above 11-hundred. North Carolina's positivity rate was at 7-point-2 percent. And there were 13-additional deaths reported Monday, bringing the total to 41-hundred-70.

First Day Of In-Person Classes For Thousands Of Wake County Students

(Wake County, NC) -- Some eight-thousand mostly elementary school students in Wake County returned for in-person classroom instruction Monday. It's the first time they have been inside school buildings since March. Under the revised new schedule, pre-K and K-12 special education students will be split into three groups using a model that allows one week of in-person classes and two weeks of virtual learning. Middle school students will return on November 9th to begin a three week rotation model. And fourth and fifth grade students will start on November 16th with a similar hybrid rotation schedule.

Body Found In Davidson Co.

(Davidson Co., NC) -- An investigation is underway in Davidson County where a body was found. Sheriff's officials say the body was discovered Sunday afternoon off of N.C. 109, near Cid Road. They have not yet identified the body or the cause of death. It's the second body discovered in the Denton area within two days.

Man Arrested In Party Bus Murder

(Guilford Co., NC) -- A man is under arrest in connection with a deadly party bus shooting in Guilford County. Twenty-eight-year-old Tyquan Harris was charged with murder Friday when he was released from the hospital. Two people were killed in the shooting October 9th on I-85 at I-73. Harris was also shot that night and is currently receiving medical treatment in prison.

Silver Alert Issued For Missing Greensboro Woman

(Greensboro, NC) -- A Silver Alert is in effect for a missing woman from Greensboro. Twenty-one-year-old Chyann Busche [[ Cheyenne Bush ]] was reported missing yesterday. She was last seen in the 27-hundred-block of 16th Street. Busche is described as five-foot-three with brown, shoulder-length hair and green eyes. Police say she could be suffering from dementia or another cognitive impairment. Anyone with information on her whereabouts is urged to call Greensboro P-D.
