Search Underway For Asheville Man In Pisgah National Forest.

(Haywood Co., NC) -- The search continues today for an Asheville man who's missing in the Pisgah National Forest. Twenty-seven-year-old Chad Seger was last heard from on October 12th, and his family reported him missing on Friday. Search and rescue crews have been scouring the Shining Rock Wilderness and Black Balsam Knob areas. Seger's vehicle was found in the Black Balsam parking lot, off Forest Service Road 816, but there was no sign of him.

Additional Warrants Obtained For Henderson Co. Man For Child Exploitation

(Henderson Co., NC) -- Seventy-five additional warrants are issued for a Hendersonville man accused of sexually exploiting children. Patrick McFarland had been previously charged with three counts of third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor. He remains in the Henderson County Detention Facility on a 770-thousand-dollar bond. An investigation was launched earlier this month after detectives received a cyber tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. McFarland was arrested at his home on Keeneland Drive.

Buncombe Co. Sheriff's Office Needs Help To ID Serial Criminals

(Buncombe Co., NC) -- Buncombe County sheriff's officials need the public's help identifying two men believed to be responsible for a series of crimes in the area. The suspects are accused of breaking into a number of vehicles and using stolen credit cards to make purchases at stores throughout Asheville, including Sunglass Hut, Nike, the Fragrance Outlet and Best Buy. Their getaway car is believed to be a white Chevy Equinox. Anyone with information is urged to call BCSO.

Tree Giveaway Held In Asheville

(Asheville, NC) -- A non-profit environmental organization in Asheville is hoping to replenish the city's lost trees. Asheville GreenWorks hosted a "tree giveaway" yesterday at Sand Hill Orchard and Nursery. Its goal is to reverse the city's tree loss, which is mostly due to growth and development. Thanks to a grant from Duke Energy, the organization has given away about two-thousand native trees since 2019.

Asheville Fire Dept. Welcomes New Recruits

(Asheville, NC) -- The Asheville Fire Department is welcoming its newest round of recruits. The 90th Academy was made up of 13 people who graduated Saturday. A socially-distanced ceremony was held at McCormick Field.

COVID-19 Cases Connected To Convocation In Charlotte

(Charlotte, NC) -- Several COVID-19 cases could be linked to an event at a church in Charlotte. Mecklenburg County Public Health officials are asking anyone who attended the two-day convocation at the United House of Prayer for All People to get tested for the coronavirus. So far, officials believe nine cases are tied to the event, which was held October 10th and 11th.

COVID-19 Clusters ID'd At UNCC

(Charlotte, NC) -- The University of North Carolina at Charlotte is identifying at least two coronavirus clusters on campus. One involved eight students, and the other involved six. The update comes after over 650 residents and staff at three residence halls were tested for the virus. The university says everyone who tested positive is under quarantine and being cared for.

First Weekend Of In-Person, Early Voting

(Charlotte, NC) -- North Carolina is wrapping up its first weekend of in-person, early voting. The Mecklenburg County Board of Elections says 17-thousand-800 locals cast their votes on Saturday. Elections officials say as of Saturday, more than 153-thousand residents had either voted in person or by mail. Statewide, over one-million people have already exercised their right to vote. Folks voting absentee have until October 27th, early voting ends October 31st and Election Day is November 3rd.

Dozen Apartment Units Damaged In Fire In Charlotte

(Charlotte, NC) -- No one is hurt after a large apartment fire in Charlotte. It happened yesterday afternoon at a three-story complex in the 48-hundred-block of Community Circle. Fire officials say a dozen units were affected. About 35 people were displaced and are being helped by the American Red Cross. There's no word yet on how the fire started.

Pedestrian Hit, Killed In Charlotte

(Charlotte, NC) -- A man is dead after he was hit by a car in North Charlotte. The accident happened around 9:30 Saturday night at St. Luke's Street and Beatties Ford Road. Police believe 28-year-old Jamal McCullough failed to activate the crosswalk light before stepping into traffic. He was hit by a Toyota Corolla. Police also believe McCullough was impaired at the time. An investigation is ongoing.

Supporters Cheer On Biden While Still In Their Cars At Durham Rally

(Durham, NC) -- Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden campaigned in North Carolina Sunday. The invitation-only event was held in the parking lot of Riverside High School in Durham. Supporters social distanced by remaining inside their vehicles, and instead, honked their horns and waved signs and balloons to applaud the high points of the former vice-president's speech. Biden praised North Carolinians for their record turn out for absentee and early in-person voting. President Trump returns for another campaign event in Gastonia on Wednesday.

Early And Absentee Voting In North Carolina At All-Time High

(Raleigh, NC) -- Figures released by the North Carolina Board of Elections show that so far one-point-43-million North Carolinians have either voted absentee or cast ballots early in this year's general election. That's more than 19-percent of the total number of registered voters in 2020 and more than double the number of people who cast ballots early in 2016. Elections officials attribute the increase to more polling sites being made available this year, along with those sites being opened longer hours.

COVID-19 Surge Averaging About 2-Thousand A Day In North Carolina

(Raleigh, NC) -- State health officials reported the number of new coronavirus cases in the state topped two-thousand for the fourth day in a row on Sunday. The two-thousand-303 infections was 201 more than the day before. The figures also showed an 11-person decrease in the number of hospitalizations at 11-hundred-29. The state's positivity rate was at six-point-one-percent. And, the number of people who have died from the disease was three-thousand-934.

Two Shootings Within Two Hours On Sunday In Durham

(Durham, NC) -- Police in Durham are investigating two separate shootings on Sunday that occurred within a two-hour period. The first was reported around 5 p.m. on Briar Rose Lane. The male victim was taken to a nearby hospital and treated for at least one gunshot wound. No word on his condition. The second shooting happened around 6:45 p.m. during a reported carjacking along the 300-block of Shannon Road near University Drive and Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway. The man injured in the shooting was also taken to a nearby hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Domestic Dispute Leaves One Man Dead In Fayetteville

(Fayetteville, NC) -- Authorities in Fayetteville say a 'domestic disturbance' led to the fatal shooting of a man inside a home on Colby Court Sunday. It happened just before 1:20 p.m. Investigators say the shooting occurred during the disturbance involving two subjects inside the residence. The man was taken to a nearby hospital where he later died. Police have not released the identities of the suspect or the victim. The incident is being investigated as a homicide.

Greensboro P-D Investigate Sunday Homicide

(Greensboro, NC) -- The Greensboro Police Department is investigating a deadly shooting. A 37-year-old man was found shot yesterday a Charlestowne Square Condominiums on Hornaday Road. He died of his injuries. So far, police have not identified a suspect. An investigation is ongoing.

Greensboro Science Center Prepares For Winter Wonderlights

(Greensboro, NC) -- The Greensboro Science Center is transforming its zoo into a one-of-a-kind holiday light show. Winter Wonderlights will include a walk-through the Ice Age, a fountain with dancing penguins, a light forest and even a visit with Santa. Crews began installing the lights on October 12th and will continue installation through the rest of the month. The event will be open to the public starting November 6th. Tickets are on sale now.
