Fire Officials Believe Apartment Blaze Was Intentional

(Asheville, NC) -- Asheville firefighters say they believe a blaze that broke out at an apartment complex was set on purpose. Investigators say the fire started inside a bedroom in a unit of the Deaverview Apartments on Monday. It damaged a total of six units, but luckily no one was injured. WLOS-TV is reporting affected residents have been given food vouchers and they have help looking for a new place to stay.

Lawmakers Pass Bill To Allow Beer Sales At Campus Stadiums

(Raleigh, NC) -- The sale of beer and wine at campus sporting events in the UNC system is closer to a reality. State lawmakers approved the bill yesterday and it now only needs the governor's signature. Alcohol is currently only sold in high-end booster sections at both UNC and N.C. State football games. The change could go into affect as early as the upcoming football season if signed by Governor Cooper.

Six Charged In Apartment Shootout

(Asheville, NC) -- A handful of men are facing charges in connection to a shootout in Asheville earlier this month. It happened outside the Hillcrest Apartments near the Montford neighborhood in the early morning hours of June 9th. Two people were treated for minor injuries. The APD said yesterday that five of six suspects have been arrested so far on an array of charges, including assault with a deadly weapon.

Police Look For Starbucks Armed Robbery Suspect

(Asheville, NC) -- Police are looking for a man who held up a coffee shop in Biltmore Village. An armed suspect allegedly came inside the Starbucks on All Souls Crescent Monday night and demanded money. He reportedly fired a shot in the air before fleeing in an 80's model car. No one was injured.

Car Delivery Service Offered In Asheville

(Asheville, NC) -- A new way to buy a car is now available in Asheville. Automotive retailer Carvana announced this week that it has expanded its delivery service for cars to four more North Carolina markets, including Asheville. The company is known for its large vending machine-style structure that acts as a home for cars, but that isn't available in western North Carolina as of now. Some of the vehicles purchased can reportedly be delivered as soon as the next day.

Asheville Listed In Top Ten Of Best Cities To Live

(Asheville, NC) -- A recent study is listing Asheville as one of the top ten best cities to live in for North Carolina. Chamber-of-Commerce-dot-org recently analyzed over 25-hundred cities nationwide for their factors of health, education, quality of life, housing and employment. Asheville squeaked into the top ten for the state at number nine. Cary was number one.

Man Dies After Shooting At Neighborhood Pool

(Charlotte, NC) -- The CMPD is investigating the deadly shooting of a man at a neighborhood pool near Matthews. Officers say the man was allegedly shot on Clifton Meadow Drive yesterday and driven to the hospital, where he died. One person was detained for questioning. Witnesses told the CMPD that the man was meeting with two other people at the pool.

Drive-By Shooting Injures Teenager

(Charlotte, NC) -- Police are looking for suspects in a drive-by shooting that injured a teenage girl in west Charlotte last night. Shots rang out from a vehicle as the 15-year-old girl was standing on Mulberry Pond Drive. She was shot in the leg. Investigators are looking to see if it's connected to another shooting last night that injured a man's hand, although it's unclear where that happened.

UNCC Shooting Victim Meets With Tebow

(Charlotte, NC) -- A UNC Charlotte shooting victim was able to meet with athlete Tim Tebow last night at uptown's BB&T Ballpark. Tebow was in Charlotte as the minor league Syracuse Mets played the Charlotte Knights. He and Drew Pescaro communicated through FaceTime after Pescaro was injured in the shooting on campus. Tebow said last night that Pescaro has shown strength, faith and determination in a tough time.

Two Women Report Sexual Assaults Early Wednesday

(Charlotte, NC) -- Two women say they were sexually assaulted in Charlotte early Wednesday morning. The CMPD says one suspect approached a 63-year-old woman on WT Harris Boulevard and led her into the woods. A 26-year-old woman was reportedly forced into a van on West Arrowood Road a short time later and sexually assaulted. The cases aren't believed to be connected.

Woman Reportedly Hit By Truck, Killed In Monroe

(Monroe, NC) -- Monroe Police are looking for a driver they believe hit a woman and left her for dead last weekend. Daphne Alvarez-Torres was found on the side of East Roosevelt Boulevard on Monday night. She had been missing since early Saturday morning. Investigators said yesterday that she may have been hit by a large Freightliner Cascade truck.

Hornets Draft 12th Tonight

(Charlotte, NC) -- The Hornets are taking a glimpse into the future of the team tonight. Charlotte is making the 12th overall pick in the 2019 NBA draft. They also have two second round picks as well. All-star Kemba Walker becomes a free agent in July, leaving his future with the team uncertain.

Six Hospitalized After SUV Slams Into Raleigh Apartment Building

(Raleigh, NC) -- Six people are in the hospital after a crash sent an SUV into an apartment building. It happened a little past 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at Lexington on the Green Apartments at Hollenden and New Hope Road. Raleigh Police say the SUV went into the apartment building after a collision with another vehicle. Three people who were in the SUV were taken to the hospital and so were three others who were injured when fire broke out in an apartment across the street.

NC Median Age Up to 38.9

(Undated) -- We're getting older. Figures the Census Bureau released Thursday show the median age for people who live in North Carolina is 38-point-nine, a year and-a-half older since 2010. North Carolina and Kentucky are tied for 22nd oldest. We're well behind oldest-in-the-nation Maine, at 44-point-nine and slightly older than the national average of 38-point-two.

Fayetteville Woman Wins $4-Million Scratch-Off Prize

(Raleigh, NC) -- A Fayetteville woman is the latest four-million dollar scratch-off winner in the NC Education Lottery. Angela Davis Samuel picked up her winnings at lottery headquarters Wednesday. She decided to take the lump sum payout so, after taxes, she went home with just under one-point-seven million dollars.

Williamson Leads 5 Duke, UNC Freshman Expected To Go High In NBA Draft

(Undated) -- Duke super freshman Zion Williamson is the favorite to be Number One in tonight's NBA Draft. The New Orleans Pelicans are expected to take the talented forward with the first overall pick. Williamson's Blue Devil freshmen teammates R.J. Barrett and Cam Reddish are expected to go in the first round, along with UNC stars Coby White and Nasser Little.

Greensboro Woman Drowns In Hot Tub

(Myrtle Beach, SC) -- A woman who drowned in a hot tub at a Myrtle Beach resort is identified as a Greensboro resident. Police say Paula Egelston was found face-down in the hot tub at The Patricia Grand hotel yesterday morning. First responders attempted CPR, but she was already dead. An investigation is underway.

Man Killed After Four-Wheeler Wreck In High Point

(High Point, NC) -- A man is dead after crashing his four-wheeler in High Point. The accident happened last Sunday near the dead-end of Southwest Street. Police say Maxton Collins struck a traffic cone and lost control. He was thrown off the four-wheeler and suffered serious head injuries. Collins died Tuesday night. Police say speed and alcohol appear to be factors in the wreck.

UPDATE: Body Recovered From Lake In Winston-Salem ID'd

(Winston-Salem, NC) -- Authorities are identifying the body recovered from a lake in Winston-Salem. A fisherman called 9-1-1 on Monday, saying a man took off his clothes, jumped into Winston Lake and never resurfaced. The victim was found about 24 hours later. He's identified as 48-year-old Tyrone Eldridge. Police say there were no signs of foul play.

Randolph Co. Inmates Accused Of Choking Another Inmate, Stealing Ring

(Randolph Co., NC) -- Four inmates at the Randolph County Detention Center are accused of choking another inmate with bed sheets and stealing his wedding ring. Timothy Harris, Isaac Dove, Devin Owens and Michael Fiscal are facing felony assault, larceny and other charges. Investigators say the victim reported the attack last Thursday. His ring was eventually recovered.

Busy Highway To Be Closed For Sinkhole Repairs

(Whitsett, NC) -- A section of a busy highway near Whitsett will be closed today for repairs. The left, eastbound lane of I-40/I-85 between Mt. Hope Church and Rock Creek Dairy roads will be blocked off from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. State transportation officials say crews are fixing a sinkhole in the area.
