Mattel Releases 'Judge Barbie' For 2019's Career Of The Year

Did you know that Barbie releases a Career of the Year doll every year?

I'm going to be honest, I had NO idea. But they just released the career doll for 2019 and it is... a Judge!

Mattel shared the exciting news on the Barbie Instagram, captioning a photo of four Barbie dolls in Judge's robes explaining why this career is the chosen one for the year.

"The verdict is in! With over 200 careers since 1959, this year #Barbie takes the stand as a Judge! The Barbie Judge Doll encourages girls to learn more about making decisions to change the world for the better.#YouCanBeAnything"

They also shared the news on Twitter with a similar message.

Talking about the decision for this Career of the Year doll, Lisa McKnight told USA Today that they were inspired after finding out that “only 33% of sitting U.S. state judges are female.”

The company also commented about how this decision was absolutely based on the incredible women taking office, but how Mattel and Barbie see there is still a lot of work to be done.

“Even though there is a record number of women [taking] office, there is still work to be done to reach all branches of government. In the US, women make up only one-third of sitting stage judges... In 2019, Barbie is taking the stand as a Judge to inspire girls to explore judicial careers with the hopes that one day they will sit on the bench and make important decisions that can change the world for the better."

I love the idea that Barbie and Mattel are working to show young girls and boys that the possibilities are endless. I would totally buy these Career of the Year dolls to have at home for Aiza and Maxon to play with!

Lisa McKnight also spoke on why the careers of these dolls are so important:

“Our hope is that girls will enjoy playing with the dolls and imagine themselves protecting the rights of others."

YES!

And by the way, if you're wondering what other careers Barbie has had, she has been ALMOST everything. She was Astronaut Barbie in 1965, UNICEF Ambassador Barbie in 1989, Major League Baseball Player Barbie in 1998 and my personal favorite, "Rap Musician Barbie" in 1992.

And that's just to name a few!!
