Murder In Battery Park- Happy Halloween!

As we get ready for a spooky evening I became curious if there were any chilling stories here in Asheville. It's ironic that I found this story about a building downtown.  When I went to Battery Park Monday evening, I saw this building.  It wasn't my first time seeing it, but I always get the same feeling when I look at it.  I get that little pit in my stomach like something is wrong, and I'm instantly creeped out.  I walk by that building as fast as possible, and I refuse to look up for fear of a ghostly figure that could be standing in one of the many windows that cascade down the building.

The building is known as Battery Park Hotel.  The story is of a girl named Helen Clevenger. A 19 year-old NYU college student who was in Asheville visiting on vacation with her uncle in the year of 1936.  On July 15th, 1936 Helen went to her room at 10:30 pm and was murdered.  She was beaten, and shot in the chest.  The story just gets more complicated, and a man could have been wrongfully accused for her death.
