Packed Animal Shelters In The Inland Empire Drop Their Adoption Fees

The Department of Animal Services in the Riverside County are waiving the adoption fees to help with the packed conditions of the animal shelters in Jurupa Valley and Thousands Palms.

Since Monday, the county is currently caring for almost 900 animals, which include 644 dogs, and has been receiving over 20,000 animals to their shelters annually. The Riverside county suggests that the public can help prevent pet overpopulation by neutering their pets, microchipping them to reunite with their pets, and putting a collar or tag on a pet in case they get lost.

"At the moment, this is a call for immediate action," said Animal Services Director Erin Gettis. "Please help reduce the number of animals in our care by adopting or rescuing large breed dogs. The shelter is full and we cannot do this without your help." The county has an abundance of large-breed dogs such as German shepherds and huskies.
