City of Asheville Curfew Remains in Place

After nights of violent protests and thousands of dollars worth of damage to small businesses in the downtown district, the city of Asheville has put a curfew in effect starting at 8pm each night through 6am the following morning. The curfew will remain in place until the Mayor decides to remove it.

Asheville Mayor, Esther Manheimer, made the announcement shortly after 2:30 Tuesday afternoon.

There guidance for the curfew is as follows:

Requires individual to remain at home with the exception of medical emergencies and acquiring goods or services that are necessary to sustain the well-being of themselves or their families

Does not apply to medical professionals, public safety workers, medical or healthcare workers, military personnel, public transportation personnel, public utilities personnel, and media

Restricts travel within the city limits of Asheville

Violators will be charged with a Class 2 misdemeanor.
