As Kevin Spaceyâs character in Baby Driver says, âPeople love great bank robbery stories.â This certainly seems to be the case with viewers of the new Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World) action-musical, it has been highly praised since it premiered at the South by Southwest Film Festival earlier this year.
Baby Driver follows, Baby (Ansel Elgort) a young getaway driver working for a veteran crime boss (Spacey) in exchange for a better life. But Baby has chronic tinnitus and needs to have continuous music in his earbuds to drown out the ringing. This also happens to make him a really amazing driver, because he drives to the beat of the music.
Spacey talked to On Air with Ryan Seacrest on Wednesday about why he was drawn to this project: âI love driving really fast in the car with a really cool soundtrack on, the movieâs all about that and I kind of dig heist movies.â
âWhen I read it I was like, this is the part that Michael Caine would have done in the 1960s version of this movie," he added. "So I basically did Michael Caine without actually doing his accent.â
The film really puts the pedal-to-the-metal with an all-star cast also including Jon Hamm, Jamie Foxx, Lily James, and Eiza Gonzales.
Baby Driver is in limited release today and everywhere Friday (June 30).
