Kevin Hart was ecstatic to be the host of The 2019 Oscars, but when old tweets resurfaced that he had already apologized for, his gig was gone as fast as it came. He refused to apologize for the tweets again. On Ellen she revealed that The Oscars still wanted him to be the host, but he turned the gig down.
There was a lot of drama around the host this year, so The Academy decided to go "HOSTLESS"

Honestly, in my opinion, I thought not having a host was GREAT. Each presenter was able to add something to the show, and it seemed to go by much quicker!
